Sullivan Amateur Radio Club
August 11, 2022
The August 2022 club meeting was called to order at the Sullivan Fire House #5 at 6:04 P.M.
The Pledge of Allegiance, Prayer and Moment of Silence were observed.
Visitor Christopher Barber was introduced as well as all attending identifying themselves with 22 people present.
July club minutes were read by Barb Durbin. Paul Barber made a motion to approve as read, Dave Johnson seconding. Motion passed.
Treasurers Report was given by Mark Ervine resulting in a current balance of $1048.50. Barb
Durbin mad a motion to approve as presented, seconded by Dave Johnson – motion passed.
OLD BUSINESS
The Repeater Committee reported that they are researching the tone board wiring, anticipate having this done in the next two weeks. Chris Westrick noted that he had gone on site when the repeater was reported to have had problems recently. May have been a heat issue or power fluctuation problem. It is working well now.
HARN will resume tomorrow. Dave Johnson, Chris Williams and Tom Hobbs will attend. Possible construction may be happening for the new room. Dave will present our plans and needs to them.
Insurance was researched by Barb Durbin. ARRL is the only provider of liability insurance found available with an annual fee of $200. Equipment insurance is approximately 1.4% of equipment price. Tom Hobbs made a motion to purchase both liability and equipment insurance, seconded by Mark Ervine. The Repeater Committee will provide equipment information to Barb Durbin to follow up with ARRL.
Family Fun Day scheduled for October 1st was discussed. Shelter 3 at Meramec State Park is currently reserved. Cody Gehlert, Barb Durbin and Ben Hatcher will be in charge of setting up games again with assistance from Dave Johnson. Food discussion will be discussed in detail at next meeting. Chris Westrick will consider the best way to add to our website so that we can list food sign up capabilities.
POTA will be scheduled in the next two weeks by Bee Shullelfield. It will be at Meramec State Park at or near the Lodge. Dave Johnson noted that there is a new area there that we can use and is ideal for this purpose. A SUPER POTA is still scheduled for September 15 – 18th activating Johnson Shut-Ins, Elephant Rock and Taum Sauk parks. More on that will be discussed at our next meeting.
First Aid Training still being followed up by Dave Johnson. He is coordinating with Dave Wegesheid to set a date for future announcement.
Bob Heil Presentation – Dave Johnson has checked with the Fire Department gaining permission to use their electronics for the Zoom meeting we need to schedule with Bob Heil. Barb Durbin will contact Bob to schedule a date offering our September or October meetings . Possible suggestions for presentation subjects were: Mic impedance, his introduction to Ham Radio, tales of going on the road with bands. We will invite the Pacific and Washington clubs to join us when the date is set.
D-Star Presentation will be arranged by Jim Rhodes for either our September or October meeting, depending on which meeting Bob Heil chooses.
Antenna Help – Towers still need removed from Bill Dickens’ house. John McReynolds is arranging for this to be done. Bee Shuffelfield needs assistance with his tower. Mike Benton and Wayne Durbin will assist as needed. Nick Nichols noted that his new antenna recently installed is working well.
VE Testing – We are able to resume testing since new information is now available to us. Margaret Emily is no longer able to coordinate this so Bee Shuffelfield has volunteered to head up testing. We have someone from Bourbon waiting to test and will make an effort to schedule a special session to get this done.
Knucklehead Dinner – This month is will be in Owensville at El Tapatio on Tuesday, August 16th at 6:30. Barb Durbin will make reservation.
Gun Raffle – There were 14 tickets still available but all were sold by the end of meeting. Chris Westrick had not brought all ticket stubs to the meeting. It was determined that Chris Williams, Tom Hobbs and Chris Westrick would get all stubs and draw after meeting end. *See note at end of minutes.
NEW BUSINESS
Election of Officers – Paul Barber nominated Barb Durbin to remain as Secretary, seconded by John McReynolds, motion carried. Paul Barber nominated Mark Ervine to remain as Treasurer, seconded by Bee Shuffelfield, motion carried. Paul Barber nominated Bee Shuffelfield to remain as Vice President, seconded by Tom Hobbs, motion carried. Bee Shuffelfield nominated Paul Barber as new Director, seconded by John McReynolds, motion carried. Paul Barber nominated Bill Higgins to remain as President, seconded by Tom Hobbs, motion carried.
November Chili Cookoff and December Christmas Party were brought up as reminder of future plans. It was suggested that we invite both the Pacific and Washington clubs to join us for these events. Barb Durbin will send a letter making this official.
Biscuit and gravy Breakfast fundraiser at Meramec State Park is still in the works. We are waiting on an oven repair at the dining lodge to be complete before we proceed.
