Sullivan Amateur Radio Club Minutes
The June 2022 club meeting was called to order at the Sullivan Fire House #5.
The Pledge of Allegiance, Prayer and Moment of Silence were observed.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read; Treasurer reported balance of $1222.15. Dave Johnson made a motion to accept both reports as read, seconded by Frank Faherty. Motion carried.
Old Business:
Insurance was discussed as to whether we needed coverage on our equipment or just liability. Barb Durbin will check with previous carriers as well as ARRL insurance.
Repeater Committee: Bill Higgins proposed officially adding Chris Westrick KD0JVF as Trustee. The motion was seconded by Mark Ervine and the motion carried unanimously.
Chris reported that no repeater work had been done on the repeater recently but would happen in the near future.
Knucklehead dinner reminder: Next Tuesday, 6:30 PM at the Sirloin Stockade in Rolla.
New Business:
The Meat Lovers group has proposed a First Annual SARC Hawaiian Luau. A whole hog, donated by Ben Hatcher, will be roasted at the McRanch by John McReynolds on Saturday, August 27th. We plan on eating at about 5 – 6 PM. Bring Hawaiian themed side dished. We may even have some Hawaiian entertainment!
Fund Raising Opportunity: Dave Johnson proposed that the club provide a biscuit and gravy breakfast on a Sunday morning at the Meramec State Park Lodge. Discussion resulted with volunteers to work it. $5.00 a plate with two biscuits and gravy will be offered. A date to start and signage will also be needed. Mike Benton made a motion to act on this idea, seconded by Tom Hobbs. Motion Passed.
It was also suggested by B. Shufflefield that we consider a turkey shoot in the near future,
Tri-fold brochure and possible business cards were discussed. Would be useful to have for encouraging new members or other club business. Barb Durbin will work on an idea for the brochure. Others will pursue the business card idea.
Rules of Repeater Etiquette were suggested to post on our website. Chris Westrick will begin work in that area.
Raffle tickets are now available for the Henry 30/30 rifle. See Chris Westrick to purchase or obtain tickets to sell.
It was noted that Kathy Schoonveld’s antenna was downed by a recent storm and she may need some assistance in getting it put back up. Bill Higgins will follow up with Kathy.
The club has written letters inviting St. James Mayor Rick Krawiecki and Bob Heil to attend our field day event. Bob Heil has responded that he will probably be unable to attend field day but has requested to attend one of our club meetings via Zoom. He has also suggested a presentation of one of his informational talks and maybe even a little organ music on his new organ. Brandon Brown made a motion to invite Bob Heil to Zoom on our next meeting in July. It was seconded by Dave Johnson. The motion passed. Dave will follow up to see if we can use the available equipment at the Firehouse to make that happen.
Field Day final arrangements: We will have multiple antennas available to us on Field Day. An informal poll suggests we will have about 6 radios available for voice, digital and CW. We will be operating on emergency power only. Everyone is encouraged to come prepared. If you bring a radio, bring coax. Bring earphones if possible if you are doing voice. Several are bringing deep cell batteries.
If you plan on doing digital, bring a laptop. Please try to have the correct logging program installed before that day. Tables, chairs, extension cords will also be needed. Paul Barber has volunteered to provide table frequency signs. Frank Faherty will bring club signs and supplies from shed. B Shuffiled will work on obtaining the club call.
Mike Benton suggested we meet there Friday to set up all that is allowed ahead of time. May even allow a little time to fish and barbecue. Chris Westrick will try to bring the club tower on Friday evening.
Lunch will be served at 12:00 noon.
The following food has been volunteered:

POTA: An email address that can be used by members wanting to activate a park was requested by B. Shuffelfield. Chris Westrick will take card of that.
The meeting drew to a close with a 50/50 drawing, won by Mark Ervine and donations being taken for medical expenses for Larry and Sheila Donner as well as Pastor Frank.
Dave Johnson made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Tom Hobbs – passed.
Respectfully Submitted,
